Open Letter to The Dean

Dear Sir,

I went for my programming paper (CS1102C) at 1pm, 24 Nov 2005. To my horror, I found out only after stepping into MPSH 6 that an A4 helpsheet was allowed to be brought into the examination hall.

Why in the bloody programming hell wasn't I informed of it?

I understand (and admit) that it's my fault that I didn't go for lectures, especially the crucial last lecture when lecturers will give tips and information.

However, isn't it also the responsibility of the lecturers to ensure that such important information regarding the final examinations be properly disseminated through all channels available?

There was no e-mail, no IVLE announcement. Not a single word.

I don't get it; shouldn't I deserve even a 4-word e-mail that says '1 A4 Helpsheet Allowed' after paying more than 5K per year for a 'prestigous' college education?

I know, 5k is even less than the peanuts you get. In fact, 5K can't even pay for the allowance for your lecturers. But 5k is 5k, definitely not peanuts to average-citizens-without-a-freaking-degree like me. Not to mention the amount of subsidy you receive from MOE. Surely the profs and docs in the college can do better.

Nevermind that we are doubtful of how you spend your funds. Nevermind that I personally suspect that more than half of the population in ECE are foreign students. Nevermind that students students can't decipher the Beijing-accented English spoken from the mouths of 80% of your teaching staff. But it's really going overboard that I pay for a college education which requires me to do every single f*** thing by myself.

I don't know whether to feel happy that MOE decides to let you go independent. On one hand, the challenge of privatisation will help in weeding out lazy lecturers who haven't been earning their keep. On the other, who knows what you will do without government control (like changing your name to National University of Non-Singaporeans, NUNS, or PADIYU: Pay And Do It Yourself University)?

I really hope that you will be concerned over the existence of such leeches sucking off taxpayer's money, that you will be more responsible than your subordinates.

Thanks for your time, but no thanks if you decide to do something (that does not result in me getting expelled from the stinking college, or getting sued for pointing out your shady behaviours), because with or without the helpsheet, I would haf failed the module.

My Loathe For MRTs Is INCREASING

taking the mrt/tube/subway almost everyday for 1hr is getting very boring and irritating. put in the morning rush and things couldn't get any worse. aniwaes, my mood lately had been rather easily moved by ppl on the line. i get more and more picky and had been screaming in my mind vulgarities and i wonder when those words will translate into sound waves...

ppl who dun let me go off the train 1st. yup, it was like the mrt platform has ghosts. hello... the train was packed enuf s.t there r no more seats available. so y rush? if u're an ah gong/ah ma, someone is bound to feel ~~guilty~~ kind enuf to gif up his seat for u.

my mind, it was always screaming: CCB! let me go off 1st will die IZZIT?

den dat day, there was a family (sort of). one ah ma, 2 aunties and 2 kids. they rushed out of the train to the stairs leading to NEL. i dunno y, but they refused to carry their kids, who din even seem to b able to walk yet. so they were literally clogging up the staircase. then one of the kids dropped sth and the ah ma was like halting the traffic so dat she could retreive the hair clip.

my mind, it was like screaming: this is RUSH HR, not the time for u and ur grandchildren to seeshay around. a lot of tired souls r dying to catch a train back home!!!

but no, i din scream out my frustrations, considering dat someday i will b a well-known celebrity lol can't let the paparazzi get hold of some ugly past of mine... and wat, they find the ah ma to testify against me:

"nor! dat si gin nah... scold me and curse my ah gal in mrt..."

and well, i was seeing the dismay of life... u noe... dat day, on the LRT, saw quite a gd-looking father (yes, cos he was w his wife and a pram w a kid dat was alive and kicking, not w groceries...) who wore a t-shirt TUCKED into his berms. aiyoh... now even students tuck their shirts out after sch leh... the only tucked in style dat looked ok was executive wear.

aniwaes, was like, haiz... i'm gonna become an uncle someday, married or not.

okok... dat's all. i'm glad the sem is gonna end. i hope i can get a place in pgp next sem so i can b spared the misery of travelling... btw, realized dat i haven't showed off my new hp (okok... 3-mth old) on dis blog. lala...

Jerk: Upgraded

Once upon a some time ago, after a minor mahjong session at huifen's hse, i was charged w the task to send yuqin home near midnite. I told her on the cab dat i was going back to nus so dat i could study in CL the next day: sun. she replied w the remark dat i was juz another guy who 'spoilt market'. in a typical response, i uttered something in defense, something like: no lah... i... i... (silence to chinatown)

ffwd to today...

i found the best reply i could haf told her.

juz on mon, i met The Jerk in the library, rite after our meeting for our final draft of ctw. now, it was not strange to meet ppl u noe in such a busy place, rite? but the prob is: the same jerk (btw, i've only known The One Jerk in nus, army aside) told serene and i juz an hr ago sth like this:

stay at sch for wat? i would rather slack at home playing computer games!!

so THE mystery was: wat was he doing in the library?

amazingly, he looked back at me sheepishly at the staircase of the fated library.

to this, i've decided to upgrade him as the Pretentious Jerk.

okok... so my best reply to yuqin (i'll try to lead her to making the same remark the next time i c her so as to give her the reply):

at least i'm open abt me trying to b a mugger, cos i recognize the fact dat i am bad in studies. yes. i'm unlike certain pretentious jerks who pretended to b nonchalant abt mugging, where in actual fact they were toilling their heads off... to show ppl how intelligent and able they r, cos they could (apparently) not mug and get an A.

I'm Living in a Cheena Outpost

recently, saw a few comments on foreign talents which reminded me of my letter of apology. yup, decided to share some excerpts from Mr Brown (he cut from somewhere also lah) and Calmone (a.k.a jay chou lookalike). hark! gd things shd b shared. =)

remembered one para dat said: s'pore is onli a springboard for ah tiongs going to USA.

foreigners come here and study on s'pore grants, earn all the money, get all the benefits and subsidies and fuck off back to their home or USA, and they do NOT nid to do NS.

and u tink we s'poreans suck when we dun pronounce 'th'? like: toofbrush, tink and tot, tank u... we'll hafta tolerate w sink and sock and sank u w those ah tiongs flooding the place.

i juz hate them. now i sink i noe how i managed to get into rv in the past. at dat time, sere were not as much ah tiongs as now. having scored 260 == being in the top 10%. unfortunately, i'm really at the borderline. they imported 10% of the cheenapoks and now i can't even beg for a scholarship. shd i b sankful enough to b able to stay in nus?? cos if had sey imported 5% more, i'd not b among the top 25% eligible... shit... y has sis FINE CITY turned into a cheena outpost?? a communist hell! shit!! i hate the govt for importing those made in cheena students. market spoilers.

My Mother Tongue

din want to flood my blog w entries too much, but read this article in Today, where a chinese (TRAITOR!!!) encouraged Singaporean non-malays (ie Chinese) to learn bahasa. in fact, the traitor said we MUZ learn them, cos we're in the malay archipelago.

well, so wat? we hafta improve our chinese cos it is vital to enter the chi market, which will bring GREAT economical opportunities for us. i dun reject the idea of learning tamil, cos india is the next up and coming great economy. but our neighbours dun gif us much benefits except the 'cheap good' in johore bahru and casinos in batam (which, in 4 yrs time, will b obselete...)

and dat TRAITOR said dat it's shameful dat most s'poreans dun understand the meaning of our national anthem. well, perhaps it's time for the anthem to b sung w different laguages, yar. reflect our multi-lang society. y let potential foreign investors stay put w the tot dat s'pore is a laid-back, inefficient malay-speaking society? after all, it's NOT malay dat has helped fuel our economy and helped us gained a footing in the 1st world...
